SUMMARY:Creating Accessible Opportunities for Young People
DESCRIPTION:Panel Discussion \nCreating Accessible Opportunities for Young PeopleDo you want to hear from young change makers and activists about their opinions on how to make opportunities accessible for young people? \nDo you also want to hear from organisations who have experience in including young people in their projects\, organisations\, and decision making? \nIf you’re thinking “yes\, that would be interesting”\, book yourself onto this discussion. \nIn this event you will hear from young people who have experienced inclusion and exclusion within opportunities made for them. They’ll talk about the barriers they may have faced and discuss the things organisations or projects might do to “attract” and “appeal” to young people. \nOrganisations will also share the things they’ve learnt through trial and error along the way\, which may act as some useful top tips for those of you who are hoping to create opportunities for young people. \nTogether\, we will discuss the things we can do collectively to create accessible and inclusive opportunities for young people. \nLeonard Cheshire\nhttps://www.leonardcheshire.org/ \nOff The Record\nhttps://www.otrbristol.org.uk/ \nReclaim\nhttps://www.reclaim.org.uk/ \nAbout the speakers \nAbout Megan \nAs well as myself being neurodivergent (I have dyslexia) I have worked in the third sector in Disability charities for the last 12 years in various different roles. The one thing all these roles have in common is that I have witnessed how the voices of disabled people count for much less than those without disabilities. When I was given the opportunity to lead the change makers project I jumped at the chance\, what better way to there be to work towards making society a fairer and more inclusive place than to champion the voices of young disabled people and facilitate change making. Young people are the future and they have the best\, most exciting ideas\, in my opinion. \nAbout Lewis \nLewis Wedlock is an activist\, academic and social psychologist. He is the social action lead for Project Zazi and one of the youngest lecturers in the UK at 23 years old. In 2020\, he was named as one of the most influential young people in the South West for the second time. www.lewiswedlock.com \nAbout The young people of Project Zazi \nThe young people of Project Zazi engage with Zazi’s services – we will be joined by young people from both the social action group and masculinity groups provided by Team Zazi. \nAbout Isabella Martini \nHi\, I am Isabella Martini\, a Manchester girl with Italian and Austrian heritage! I have worked with RECLAIM for two years. I started as a youth worker and now I help out in managing the amazing team. I am extremely passionate about working class young people’s voices! A postcode should not have an effect on their future!  Also changing the norm around absent parents and the effects it has on young people\, this is my own work. Out of work life I do a lot of acting and always outdoors! Currently learning to roller skate\, all tips needed! \nAbout Mel \nHi my name is Mel\, I am 16 and Romanian. \nI study Maths and Philosophy at college and I am passionate about climate change and smashing the patriarchy. I have been working with RECLAIM since year 8 on the lead programme and I have been a part of FullTimeFierce and now an Alumni member.  \nI have run\, organised and led a ‘protest party.’ This allowed young people to not only lead on a full event but enjoy themselves in a safe environment. \nOrganisations \nShare This Story\, Choose Your Platform!
